Friday Harbor couldn't get its offense on track and then struggled more after losing its starting quarterback to a neck injury in a 21-0 loss to Montesano Saturday, Nov. 11. The Wolverines (9-2) finish the season tied for ninth in Class 1A and the Bulldogs (10-1) advance to the quarterfinals.

Montesano went up 7-0 with 2:38 left in the first quarter on Adam Bighill's 22-yard run. Tyler Dahlstrom kicked the first of three PATs.

Dahlstrom set up the Bulldogs' second touchdown with Montesano's only pass of the game: He threaded the ball 30 yards to Jason Dierick, who added 19 yards on the ground. Brent Phillips then scored on a 31-yard run with 9:39 to go in the half.

The Wolverines' chances of closing the gap took a major blow with about three minutes remaining in the second period. A Bulldog tackler's helmet smacked the back of Friday Harbor quarterback Cole Franklin's helmet. Play was suspended for about 25 minutes until emergency workers took Franklin off in a stretcher. The senior was not seriously injured but the whiplash-style injury forced senior running back Tyler Hart to move to quarterback.

Bighill, who gained 175 yards on 20 attempts, returned the second half kickoff 90 yards for the Bulldogs' third touchdown.

The Bulldogs have an opportunity to avenge their only loss of the season when they face Castle Rock (10-1) on Friday, Nov. 17.
