Wolverine soccer team loses to La Conner

posted 09/16/2006
The Lady Wolverines traveled to La Conner for a match against their perennial rivals on September 12, 2006. Focus was just not there for most of the first half and a goal was given up at about 30 minutes. That seemed to wake things up, and although Friday Harbor was down 0-1 at the half, the team was Now clearly controlling the play.

Dividends were reaped shortly after the interval, with smart strikes by Lauren Hoover from 30 yards (assisted by Shelby Ness) and at close range by Jenny Guard (from Beth Ware).

Unfortunately, rather than maintaining the intensity, insecurity set in, allowing their opponents to score three times in the last 18 minutes. Final score: Friday Harbor 2, La Conner 4.

Despite the outcome, progress is being made by this very young squad. Freshman keeper Hannah Snow continues to impress, and Ware's play has moved up to yet a higher level.

The next (non-league) game on September 16 will be a great test as it is against South Whidbey, a strong 2A school twice the size of FHHS.

Wolverine booters shut out Eagles

Friday Harbor girls soccer team blanked Evergreen Lutheran 2-0 for a home-opener win. The Wolverines improve to 2-0 for the season.
