On Saturday, Sept. 16, Friday Harbor High School girls soccer team hosted South Whidbey, a major Cascade League 2A school. This was a real challenge for our young team and they requited themselves very well. The game was scoreless until just before half when South Whidbey managed to elude our otherwise rock solid defense to lead 1-0. With just a slightly different bounce off Shelby Ness's earlier shot, the score would have been level.

The game continued close into the second half, and although two more goals were yielded, by the end of the game the Lady Wolverines were dominating play.

Lola Elford debuted in goal in the second half, and made a number of fine saves. Tandem forwards Alinson Nash and Hanna Burke moved the ball nicely as well.

Whitney Porter's play at her new position at sweeper, coupled with double stoppers Beth Ware and Lindsey Youngquist in what in called a 3-5-2 , was a revelation which bodes well for the future. A game such as this is a benchmark on the road to excellence.
