After their exciting game against South Whidbey, it was a challenge for the Friday Harbor Girls Soccer team to focus on their Tuesday match against Mount Vernon Christian. This is a new program whose team's inexperience was made up for by their enthusiasm. The Lady Wolverines controlled the field the whole match but lacked the discipline to generate their usual flowing and easy play.

This is not to say that there were many fine moments which yielded a full handful of lovely goals. In the first half, there were two delightful strikes by forwards Shelby Ness (unassisted) and Hanna Burke (unassisted), and a sharp free kick score from Whitney Porter. Thus, at the interval, it was 3-0.

The second half was actually two games: the first 20 minutes were a bit disorganized and sluggish, while the remainder of the game was finally played with speed, precision, and intelligence.

Midfielder Charlotte Guard aggressively won a ball and struck a powerful shot from 25 yards at about the 60th minute. Shortly thereafter, center mid Jenny Guard served a sumptuous ball to forward Alinson Nash who made no mistake in completing the scoring.

This allowed us to empty the bench and provide some meaningful play time to all. Keepers Lola Elford and Hannah Snow shared the season's second clean sheet. Final score: Friday Harbor 5- Mount Vernon Christian 0.
