MARK FISHAUT COACH

FHHS Soccer team beats Mt Vernon Christian Academy 3-0

Story contributed by Mark Fishaut

Another visit to the mainland, another victory. The Lady Wolverines churned out a workmanlike win over an improving Mount Vernon Christian Academy. The match opened with a spirited attack: a sharp cross from Jenny Guard was received by Whitney Porter on the right flank who made no mistake and rifled it home from 25 yards at the 4th minute. What should have triggered a rout did the exact opposite as a fog of ennui settled over the field. Rather than two teams playing, were 22 individuals each trying to do it all themselves. The half ended 1-0 in favor of Friday Harbor.

The second half began in the same fashion as had the first. In the 42nd minute, Charlotte Guard's precise throw in from just past the centerline found Jenny Guard in an open slot. A few sort steps later, Guard found the back of the net from just outside the 18 yard box. 2-0 Friday Harbor. The Wolverines completely controlled the remainder of the match, not once allowing their opponents into their end, leaving Lola Elford little to do but direct play from the back. After eluding several Mount Vernon defenders, Porter completed the scoring midway through the period.

Freshman Fabiola Bell debuted at sweeper and requited herself well as did Alex Freeman at outside defender. Regulars Sammy Michael and Lyndsey Youngquist gave a full 80 minutes, and Kara Dunn showed fine form in her brief appearance.

Final score: Friday Harbor 3- Mount Vernon Christian 0.
