MARK FISHAUT COACH

La Conner beats FH soccer team 3-0

Story by Mark Fishaut

posted 10/21/2006
Another visit to La Conner, another frustrating loss. And another game that replicated the last. The first half was dead level with Friday Harbor probably having the better of the play (sound familiar?). A lovely Jenny Guard- Shelby Ness goal was disallowed on yet another phantom offside midway through the period. A fine shot by Charlotte Guard off a corner was just wide. Would those have made the difference-who knows?

Following the interval, things proceeded apace until a total breakdown occurred. In a span from the 50th through the 56th minute, the Wolverines allowed three unanswered goals and that was the game. Despite recovering from that shocking lapse in play, Friday Harbor was unable to find the back of the net. And so it ended Friday Harbor 0- La Conner 3.

Fine games were played by Amanda Root and Sammy Michael. Hannah Snow again sparkled in goal in a lost cause, with a spectacular over the bar save late in the match. However, it was not enough to make up for that fatal six minutes. This was probably the unhappiest loss of the season, especially for the seniors, but it made the team determined to overcome their disappointment and get down to the business of finishing the season and preparing for the playoffs.
