Viking softball team rallies for one victory, Wolverines stem second comeback

"I'm very proud of them," Friday Harbor coach Kevin Carlton said of the Wolverines. "They came back in the second game, got ahead and fought them off for the win."

"It's a tough field, really soft," Carlton said. "Orcas tends to play very well at home and we tend not to play well there… We could've tanked but we didn't."

Friday Harbor built a 2-0 lead against the Vikings in the first game. Kerri Goff singled and stole two bases in the second inning. Hannah Wade reached base on balls and stole second. Lola Elford singled in a run.

The Wolverines scored their second run in the third inning. Jangard singled, Ware walked and Kelsey Carlton hit an RBI single.

Friday Harbor went up 2-0 in the fourth inning of the second game. Ware, the winning pitcher, reached base on balls and stole second. Carlton doubled, sending Ware home. Carlton stole third and scored on Elford's sacrifice.

Orcas drew within a run in the sixth inning on Sophia Padbury's triple and Mackie Taylor's two-out single. Ware threw a strikeout for the final Friday Harbor out.

The Vikings threatened in the seventh inning but the Wolverines held.

Guard, Goff and Elford hit singles for the Wolverines and Carlton had a double.

Sophia Padbury singled and tripled for the Vikings. Sydney Harris, Hailey Padbury, Gaylord, Taylor and Lowry each smacked a base hit.
