Four Wolverine tennis players advance in post-season playFriday Harbor High School's top two singles teams and their No. 1 doubles team are advancing in postseason play after a strong fall sports season finish at the Class 1A District Tournament in Coupeville Saturday, Oct. 21. "We were amazingly deep this year," Friday Harbor coach Dick Barnes. Friday Harbor's No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Josh Lehr and senior Keller McNairy finished first in the tourney. They defeated Coupeville's No. 2 team of Eli Berggren and Tony Sherman 6-2, 6-0 in the first round. Lehr and McNairy led Coupeville's No. 1 team of Brian Miller and Jake Weaver 6-2, 2-0 in the championship match before the Wolves retired. Senior Peter Duggins edged Wolverine teammate Mike Sandifer 6-0, 7-5 for the singles title. Duggins defeated Jordan Lamb, Coupeville's No. 2 player, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the final. Sandifer rallied for a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Connor Tasoff, the Wolves No. 1 player. District champions and runners-up advance to the state-qualifying Quad District Tournament at the University of Washington in May. The runners-up must play a pigtail match for seeding. Friday Harbor's No. 2 doubles team pushed Coupeville's No. 1 squad but lost. Miller and Weaver beat sophomore Pablo Lopez and senior Seiju Boku 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Lopez and Boku, an alternate finished third by defeating Berggren and Sherman 6-1, 7-6 (8-6). Friday Harbor blanks CoupevilleThe Friday Harbor boys tennis team went 5-0 against Coupeville Oct. 12. Mike Sandifer defeated Connor Tasoff 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles and Albert Strasser beat Jordan Lamb 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in No. 2 singles. Keller McNairy and Pablo Lopez won 6-1, 6-3 against Jake Weaver and Brian Miller in No. 1 doubles. Seiji Boku and Jake Lehr defeated Eli Berggren and Tony Sherman 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles. Louis Paul and Zach Milkis were victorious 6-1, 6-1. Wolverines ground FalconsFriday Harbor posted a 6-1 win over tennis power South Whidbey Oct. 6. Mike Sandifer, Pablo Lopez and Zach Milkis won in singles action. Keller McNairy and Josh Lehr, Louis Paul and Albert Strasser, and Jake Ronhaar and Seiji Boku were victorious in doubles play. Friday Harbor tennis team sweeps CoupevilleFriday Harbor defeated Coupeville 5-0 in boys tennis Oct. 3. Peter Duggins blanked Jeff Boyer 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles action. Mike Sandifer topped Quinten Farmer 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match. In No. 1 doubles action, Keller McNairy and Josh Leher defeated Brian Miller and Jake Weaver 6-2, 6-4. Louis Paul and Pablo Lopez rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Eli Berggren and Tony Sherman in No. 2 play. Seiji Boku and Jake Ronhaar defeated Jordan Lamb and Connor Tasoff 6-4, 6-7, 7-6. |
