Report of Girl’s Soccer Game of 10-17-2007

By Coach Mark Fishaut

posted 10/19/2007
Under sunny skies, the Lady Wolverines promptly regrouped following the La Conner match and to take on the Concrete Lions. Their previous match had been an emotional overtime victory, and they were determined to win this one convincingly for injured keeper Hannah Snow.

The fans were in for a treat: the Whitney Porter Show. This season has been a little bit of a struggle for the junior captain, but today she really found her rhythm. She opened the match with a breakaway goal in the first three minutes and there was no looking back. Yet another elegant set of passes between her and Charlotte Nygaard ended with a brilliant strike for her second tally. Midway through the second half, Kate Fyrqvist set Porter up in front of a helpless Concrete keeper and the hat trick was completed.

She added an assist on freshman Clara’s Brand second goal of the season. The fixture’s other score was yet another Beth Ware strike late in the first session.

The Lady Lions rarely crossed midfield, and when they did, were stifled by defenders Amanda Root, Fabiola Bell, and Maggie Andersen. The one blemish was a nicely taken Concrete free kick late in the match that had no effect on the outcome.

Friday Harbor’s quality of play continues to improve with each test as the team focuses on a strong completion of the season and prepares for the playoffs. They thankfully have 2 days off with their next game against Nooksaak Valley on Saturday the 20th and multiple matches the following week.

Final score: Friday Harbor 5- Concrete 1
