Nooksack beats Friday Harbor 3-2

By Coach Mark Fishaut

posted 10/21/2007
That "other team" took the field against Nooksaak Valley Saturday afternoon. The Lady Wolverines never found the rhythm that had characterized the week’s three previous matches. They did control most of the first session play but missed numerous opportunities to put the game away early. Despite that, they led at half time 1-0 off a lovely turnaround shot by Charlotte Nygaard off a pass from Kate Fyrqvist.

The doldrums deepened in the second half with 30 of the 40 minutes in the Friday Harbor end of the field. Nonetheless, they led 2-1 late in the half thanks to another goal from Clara Brand set up by Fyrqvist. The last 15 minutes were played in a haze, with 2 goals allowed and a final score of Friday Harbor 2- Nooksaak Valley 3.

The team now has the weekend to rest up for the final push. There are two remaining League contests on the 22nd (home) and 23rd (away), and a first playoff match on the 25th, site and time to be determined.

What can be taken away from today’s let down? The last time this happened in September, the girls came back and played one of their best games of the season.

This is too good a side to not bounce back and finish with strength and commitment.
