Game Report of 10/25/2007:
The season came to an end with a playoff loss against Lynden Christian.
Regular season records are deceiving as the Lady Wolverines had won 9 matches compared to the Lync’s 2. It’s all in the competition, and this was obvious from the outset. LC quickly dominated the tempo and was able to score early and often against our young Wolverines. The score at the break was 0-5.
None of the players were down at the interval, fully understanding what they were up against. They were secure and they were proud and showed their best in the second session. A stalwart team will not be denied, and the second session was level, with two goals from each squad. Whitney Porter tallied a brilliant score beating the Lync’s sweeper and keeper late in the period, and Amanda Root completed the season’s scoring off a beautifully struck set play.
It is gratifying that almost the entire team was able to participate in this playoff game. Certainly there are areas in which improvement must take place, but this is an evolutionary process, with little about which any should have complaint. There are so many good things going forward to next season that one almost wishes it began next week.
Final score: Lynden Christian 7- Friday Harbor 2.
