Matthew Porter advances to state in three events
Friday Harbor senior Matthew Porter placed second in the long jump, third in the triple jump and fifth in the 400-meter run at the Class 1A Tri-District Track and Field Championships and advances to the state meet at Tahoma High School next week. Porter leaped 20 feet, 11 inches in the long jump, cleared 43-2 in the triple jump and finished the 400 in :51.08. Otto Schmidt finished seventh in the 1600 in 4:40.64. Matthew Porter, Otto Schmidt qualify for Tri-District MeetFriday Harbor's Matthew Porter and Otto Schmidt earned out-right berths to the Class 1A Tri-District Championships with first- and second-place finishes at the Sub-District Meet Friday, May 9 at Lynden Christian High School. State-qualifying tri-district is Thursday, May 15 and Saturday, May 17. Porter won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 2 inches and bounded to a first in the triple jump with a 41-2 effort. He placed second in the 400 meters in 52.88 seconds. Schmidt took the 3200 title with a personal-best 10:15.50 and was the 1600 runner-up with a personal-record 4:39.74. He also finished sixth in the 800 in 2:50.35. Friday Harbor's Wilson Schubert came in fifth in the 800 in 2:28.26, placed eighth in the long jump with a 14-10 leap and was ninth in the javelin with a throw of 86-10. Gabe Scott finished sixth in the discus with a 92-11 toss and was eighth in the shot put with a 31-2 heave. Michael Ausilio thrust the javelin to a ninth-place mark with a 91-2 thrust and flung the disc 82-5 for a 10th-place finish. |
