Friday Harbor athletes are performing well at the Class 1A State Track and Field Championships at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. Matthew Porter ran the 400-meter in 51.67 seconds. He posted the ninth-best time in the preliminaries and missed the final-eight cut by .24 seconds. The senior also finished ninth in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, nine inches. Junior Whitney Porter ran the 100 high hurdles in :17.52 and finished sixth in her heat in the preliminaries. She tied for 11th in the high jump with a 4-8 effort. Freshman Kelsey Barnes pushed the shot 33-4.25, second in her heat and ninth overall.
