Eight Lopez girls clinch berths to the state track meetEight Lopez Island girls earned berths to the Class 1B State Track and Field Championships at Eastern Washington University in Cheney Friday-Saturday, May 23-24. Seniors Laura Strom, Lindsey Cummins, Rosanna Degraaf, and Lisa Vaughn, sophomores Laura Strom, Ruthie Degraaf, and freshmen Ellen Fisher and Erin Wilbur qualified by posting top-three finishes at the Bi-District Meet Saturday, May 17 at King's High School. The Lobos finished second in the team standings, missing a title by five points. Strom won the high jump with a leap of four feet, eight inch and finished first in the triple jump with a 28-1.5 effort. Fisher took first in the 3200-meter run in 13 minutes, 33.76 seconds.
