Orcas girls complete season goal; win playoff game at home

Orcas girls basketball coach Terry Moran-Hodge had his team circle Feb. 14, 2008 on their calendars at the start of this season. He told his team their goal was to play a home playoff game on that day. The Vikings went one step past that mark today by gliding past Northwest Yeshiva 61-42 in the opening round of the Class 2B Tri-District Tournament.

"It was fun to have a home playoff game," Moran-Hodge said.

The Vikings (16-3) play Seattle Lutheran (17-5) Saturday, Feb. 16 at Chief Leschi High School in Puyallup. If they win that contest the Vikings advance to a semifinal contest Monday, Feb. 18.

Ten of the 12 Vikings scored in the game and all were unselfish in dishing the ball off. "We had 19 team assists," Moran-Hodge said. "It seemed like everybody had an assist."

Cara Peacock led the Vikings with 15 points. Melissa Moran-Hodge scored 8, as did Lanie Padbury 8. The other Viking scorers were: Stephanie Shaw 7, Sydney Harris 6, Renae Harvey 6, Emily Diepenbrock 4, Allison O'Toole 3, Maddy Smith 2 and Anika Thomas 2.
