Byington sent a corner kick into the net 15 minutes later and the Wolverines led 2-0. "We played really strong in the first half," Duke said. "We dominated them, put them on their heels." Grant Schwinge lifted the Wolverines to a 3-0 lead 15 minutes into the second half with a corner kick. "Cameron and Grant had outstanding games," Duke said. Orcas Island's Melissa Moran-Hodge won the girls title and Friday Harbor's Megan Cuomo was runner-up. Price hit 15 of 18 greens en route to his best finish in the league tourney. He finished sixth in his freshman year and third as a sophomore. "I was pretty proud of myself," Price said. "I played pretty well." The Wolverines used 417 strokes in their first-place showing. Orcas Island placed second with 429 and La Conner was third at 439. Friday Harbor's other top-five finishers were Jordan Taylor (82), Sam Pouillion (85), Micah Reitan (87) and Tyler McKee (91). Exactly a year ago the Meridian (15-6) bounced Friday Harbor (17-6) from the playoffs. This season the Wolverines earned one sweet Valentine's Day treat. "It was as stunning a come-from-behind win as you could have," said Friday Harbor assistant coach Jim McNairy. "Their fans were just shocked." FULL STORY Friday Harbor girls finish season with sub-district lossFriday Harbor girls basketball team closed the season with a 48-40 playoff loss at Coupeville Wednesday, Feb. 13. The Wolves built an 11-point lead at the end of the third period of the Class 1A sub-district game but Friday Harbor cut it to 6 with about three minutes to go but the Wolverines were forced to foul in the final minutes. The Wolves sank 8 of 12 free throws down the stretch. Coupeville's Megan Smith led all scorers with 21 points, including four of the Wolves' seven three-pointers. Brooke Jangard paced the Wolverines with 13 points. She went 7-for-10 at the free-throw line. Kelsey Barnes scored 10 and Kiersten Radden contributed 9. Maggie Anderson scored 4. Lizzy Guard and Kayla Short chipped in 2 points apiece. The Wolverines finish the season 5-17 but were competitive in more than half their games, including their finale against the Wolves. "I'm happy with how far the program's come," said Friday Harbor coach Eric Jangard. " We had a chance to win that district game. We'll see where we go from here." "It was a great season. We had a goal to improve and we did," Jangard said. " We played a lot of close games. We lost five games this year by fewer points than the free throws we missed." Radden, the Wolverines' sole senior, will be missed. "You lose a lot when you lose Kiersten," Jangard said. "She understands the game so well." "It was a good season, but it could have been better," Radden said. The senior was impressed with the team's improvement from the previous season. "Everybody grew as players and we actually played together," Radden said. As Radden rode the ferry home from her last high school basketball game, reality had not registered for Radden. "It hasn't hit me yet but when I come back next year and watch it's going to be hard," she said. The rest of the Wolverines will be returning. "We started two freshmen and a sophomore tonight," Jangard said. "Next year's going to be exciting."
