Leed grapples to third place at Logger Invite

Friday Harbor’s Britton Leed posted a third-place finish in the Darrington Invitational Saturday and extended his solid effort by pinning the Loggers’ John Forest Tuesday. Leed notched the stick at 1:28 in the first round of the Wolverines’ last home meet of the season.
"Britton had a nice match," Friday Harbor coach Gordy Banry said, "though I’d like to see him wrestle someone tougher."
William Cobos, who placed sixth at the Darrington Invite, upended Shawn Vincent 17-3 in the dual’s 140-pound match. "William was right in there. He was really tough."
Darrington won the Northwest A League dual 33-19. The Wolverines were 2-4 in contested matches against the Loggers, and Friday Harbor forfeited four bouts to Darrington’s two. "We lost two matches we should have won," Banry noted.
Roccay LaRock (125), who placed fifth in the 11-team tourney, fell 10-12 to Jordan Pagget on a near fall at the buzzer. Jimmy Feliz (152) finished fourth in Saturday’s tourney, but was pinned late by Mike Elrod Tuesday.
Two-time state-placer Brian Lay pinned Mike Pretz in the 130-pound division.
Chris Jamieson (189) earned a sixth-place finish in the tourney and won by forfeit in the dual.
Friday Harbor finishes the regular season today, Feb. 3, at Concrete. The state-qualifying Tri-District Tourney is at Bellevue Christian Feb. 12.

LaRock drops Granite Falls competitor
Friday Harbor's Rocky LaRock pinned his Granite Falls opponent in the first round of a 125-pound bout during a road dual Saturday.
The other four Friday Harbor grapplers who made the trip lost. Britton Leed (130) was defeated 7-11 and William Cobos (140) was beaten 9-16 in an exhibition match. "Britton’s and William’s matches were really good. They were both winning," said Friday Harbor coach Gordy Banry.
Chris Jamieson (189) and Mike Pretz were pinned.
Friday Harbor travels to the Darrington Invitational Saturday.
Cobos, J. Feliz are runners-up at Concrete Invitational
William Cobos, in the 140-pound division, and Jimmy Feliz, in the 152 class, each defeated three foes en route to second-place finishes at the Concrete Invitational Saturday, January 15.
"Everybody wrestled really well," Friday Harbor coach Gordy Banry said of the six Wolverine grapplers who competed in the tourney.
Britton Leed finished 5th among 130-pounders and Roccay LaRock placed 6th among 125-pound wrestlers. Mike Pretz (135) and Chris Jameson (189) also competed.
Friday Harbor was to host Darrington Jan. 11 but the Loggers canceled due to snow. A make-up meet is set for Feb. 2.
The Wolverines have a week to prepare for a road trip to Granite Falls. The first match will start at 1 p.m. Saturday. Jan. 22.
Miller starts senior season with win

Friday Harbor's Matt Miller, a 145-pound senior, posted the Wolverines' first victory of the season by fighting off Jeff Nearing's late surge for a 6-2 decision. Visiting Lake Stevens won the rest of the matches during Friday Harbor's season-opener Saturday, Dec. 5.
Friday Harbor freshman Mike Pretz came within one point of notching a win in his first high school outing: Lake Stevens' Zach Gleane slipped past Pretz 8-7.
"I was really impressed with the way Matt and Mike wrestled," Friday Harbor coach Gordy Banry said. "For his first match ever, Mike looked really
good."
