Friday Harbor downs Coupeville 3-2
Zac Williams rallied for a victory in the No. 1 singles match as the Friday Harbor boys tennis team tripped Coupeville 3-2 Thursday, Oct. 11.
Williams defeated his Coupeville foe 3-6, 7-6, 6-2.
The Wolverines' top two doubles teams also won. Andrew Westphalen and Elliot Thomsen won 6-3, 6-2, and Drew Allen and Alex Altman were victorious 6-0, 6-4.
Jake Byron battled tough in a 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 2-6 loss and Kohl Metzger-Bell went down 1-6, 1-6.
Borderites edge Wolverine net players
Blaine's boys tennis team trimmed Friday Harbor 3-2 in non-league play Monday, Oct. 8.
Friday Harbor's Zac Williams defeated his foe 7-5 in singles action and the Wolverine doubles duo of Alex Altman and Drew Allen won 7-6 (9-7).
Lions nip Wolverines on courts
Class 3A Lynden used strong singles play to edge the Friday Harbor boys team 3-2 Friday, Oct. 5 in non-league action.
Friday Harbor won the doubles action: Elliot Thomsen and Andrew Westphalen defeated Ry Entrikin and Marc Keller 6-4, 6-2; Alex Altman and Drew Allen beat John Slagle and Tyler Matheis 6-3, 4-6 (7-4).
Singles results are: Till Kaesbach d. Jake Byron 6-0, 6-1; Brett VanLeeuwen d. 6-1, 6-3; and Rex Fraser d. Kohl Metzger-Bell 6-2, 6-0.
South Whidbey beats FH boys tennis team
The Friday Harbor boys tennis team fell to Class 2A South Whidbey 1-4 in and 2-3 to Lynden.
Westphalen and Thomsen shine in Friday Harbor Invite

Elliot Thomsen and Andrew Westphalen rallied in the semi-finals to advance the championship of the Friday Harbor Invitational Saturday, Sept. 22. The Wolverines’ No. 1 duo edged Coupeville’s top pair in the championship.
Drew Allen and Alex Altman, Friday Harbor’s No. 2 doubles team, finished sixth as did Zac Williams, the Wolverines’ No. 1 singles player.
Friday Harbor finished third with 20 team points. Blaine tallied 27 points to win the tourney and Standwood placed second with 26. Coupeville was fourth with 17.

Friday Harbor boys tennis team won the doubles action at Coupeville Thursday, Sept. 13 but the Wolves swept the singles matches for a 3-2 victory.

FH doubles team nets title at Blaine Invite

Friday Harbor’s Elliot Thomsen and Andrew Westphalen routed Lynden’s No. 2 team Elmer and Keller of 6-2, 6-0 to capture doubles crown at the Blaine Tennis Invitational Saturday, Sept. 8.
The host Borderites, who finished first and second in singles action, posted the most team points. Lynden finished second, Friday Harbor placed third and Coupeville was fourth.
Thomsen-Westphalen, the Wolverines No. 1 duo, all but blanked Blaine’s C.J. Stauffer and Lucas Werdal 6-1, 6-0 in the first round. The Wolverines upended Malerry-Slage 7-5 and 6-1 in the semi-finals.
Coupeville’s No. 1 team of Eric Taylor and Ben Kortlever edged Friday Harbor’s No. 2 squad of Jake Bryon-Kohl Metzger-Bell 6-2, 4-6 (7-1) in the opening round. Jake Hambure and Ryan Alexander took the next match 6-3, 6-2 against Metzger-Bell and Alex Altman, a sub for Bryon.
The Wolverines’ Zac Williams edged Lynden’s Nate Louws 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) for fourth place. Rex Fraser, Lynden’s No. 2 player, defeated Williams, Friday Harbor’s No. 1 player, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round. Williams advanced by trimming Andrew Mouw, Coupeville’s No. 2 player, 7-5, 6-4.
Nate Mouw, Coupeville’s No. 1 player, beat Drew Allen, Friday Harbor’s No. 2 player, 6-2, 6-0. Louws bounced Allen 6-3, 6-2.
