Ross throws one-hitter as Wolverines rock Vikings

Jacob Ross hurled a 1-hitter, cracked his second home run in as many days and stole two bases as Friday Harbor shut out Orcas 17-0 in five innings, Friday, March 29.

The Vikings' Rob Harvey broke up the no-hitter by popping a double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Adam Posenjak, Friday Harbor's No. 9 hitter, connected for two singles and four RBI. The shortstop also "made a beautiful diving catch on a Texas Leaguer to keep the no-hitter alive," said Friday Harbor coach Rich Warin.

Rus Reyes, pinch-hitting for Ross in the fifth, smacked a homer. Elliot Thomsen drove in three runs on three hits. Danny Cumming connected for two base hits and drove in a run in the fifth inning.

Friday Harbor's Jacob Ross popped a home run as Friday Harbor's baseball team trimmed Orcas 4-3, Thursday, March 28.

The host Vikings and Wolverines were tied 1-1 going into the fifth inning when Ross led off with his homer. Brady Ryan was hit by a pitch and Fletcher Vynne rapped a base hit. Andrew Westphalen singled home Ryan. Westphalen scored on Elliot Thomsen's base hit and the Wolverines went up 4-1.

Orcas narrowed the the lead to a run by scoring two in the fifth and sixth innings.

Ryan relieved winning pitcher Rus Reyes in the bottom of the seventh. Ryan gave up a lead-off single but picked off the baserunner. The Vikings then went out in order.
