Wolverine sluggers sweep Vikings

Jacob Ross fanned 11 Orcas batters, rapped an RBI double and a single and swiped three bases as the Friday Harbor Wolverines slipped by Orcas 6-2 Tuesday, April 16.

With the victory and La Conner's loss to Concrete, the Wolverines gain sole possession of first place in the Northwest A League play. Friday Harbor is 8-1 in conference and 10-1 overall. Orcas slips to 1-7 and 2-9.

Elliot Thomsen doubled, singled and reached base on an error for the Wolverines and Fletcher Vynne hit two base hits and drove in a run. Ross walked one batter and allowed seven hits in the Wolverines' third victory over the Vikings this season.

Sam Kenady cracked two singles for the Vikings. Tony Clark, Rob Harvey and McLane Stone each smacked base hits.

Friday Harbor one run in the top of the first inning. Ross singled, stole second and third and scored on a base hit by Vynne.

The Vikings went 2-1 in the bottom of the first. Cory Harrington reached base on an error and Clark, Harvey and Kenady each rapped singles.

The Wolverines knotted the game 2-2 in the second. Damon Woodward walked and scored on a sacrifice by Andrew Westphalen.

Friday Harbor gained the lead in the third. Timmy Aylward lifted a sacrifice fly, driving in Thomsen, who singled and stole second and third.

After Adam Posenjak singled, Thomsen hit into a fielder's choice. Ross ripped a two-out double, driving in Thomsen and putting Friday Harbor up 4-2.

The Wolverines added two more runs in the seventh inning. Westphalen singled and Ross reached base on an error. Ross scored on a base hit by Vynne. Trevor Bacon, pinch running for Vynne, went home after Thomsen doubled.
