The Lions, who fell by one run in extra innings in two previous games against the Wolverines, broke out for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Concrete improves to 6-5 in league and 6-6 overall. After the road loss, Friday Harbor drops to 10-2 in Northwest A League play and 12-2 overall. The Wolverines still lead the league with three conference contests remaining. "I was really happy to see us sweep a doubleheader," said Friday Harbor coach Rich Warin of the victories over the only time that beat the Wolverines this season. Coupeville went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning on the first game but Vynne led off the bottom of the second with his shot well over the left field fence. The Wolverines added 2 more runs in the second, 6 in the third, 7 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth. Vynne also smacked two singles and reached base on an error. Elliot Thomsen singled doubled and drove in 4 runs for the Wolverines. Adam Posenjak rapped two doubles and Andrew Westphalen hit a base hit and a double. Damon Woodward singled, sacrificed in a run and reached base on balls. Timmy Aylward had 2 RBI. Jacob Ross earned the win for the Wolverines. Thomsen gave up only four hits over four innings in the second game. Three of the hits were solo homers but Thomsen's teammates provided more offense. Friday Harbor scored 4 runs in the first, two in the second and 1 in the fifth. Coupeville scored 2 in the fourth and 1 in the sixth, trimming the Friday Harbor's lead to 7-3 but the Wolverines broke out for 5 in the bottom of the sixth. Brett Bartmasser went 3-for-4 for Friday Harbor. He hit a double and drove in 3 runs. Ross and Vynne each cracked a double and Brady Ryan drove in two runs. Friday Harbor improves to 12-1 overall. Coupeville is 1-8 in league and 2-9 overall. |
