Friday Harbor closed its first season of fastpitch softball with two narrow losses at the Class A Tri-District Tournament in Mount Vernon. Cascade Christian nipped Friday Harbor 7-6 in the tourney opener and Bear Creek ousted the Wolverines 7-4.

"I was proud of my girls. We came back in each game," said Friday Harbor coach Kevin Carlton. "That shows a lot of heart by those girls."

Friday Harbor finishes the season 13-9. Most of those losses were to teams bound for the state tournament. "We had a great year and we're going to build from here," Carlton said.

Cascade Christian went up 5-1 but Friday Harbor rallied for a 6-5 lead in the fifth. Kelsea Peterman reached base on balls and Jessica Peacock doubled. The scored on Maggie Foley's single. Foley stole second and went home on Summer Ausilio's base hit. Ausilio advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Erica Percich's sacrifice fly.

The Cougars regained the lead by scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Friday Harbor burst ahead of Bear Creek 4-1 in the fourth inning. Sissy Carlton singled, Percich reached base on balls and Melissa Peacock singled to load the bases. Peterman walked, scoring a run before Jessica Peacock doubled in two runs. Megan Vynne singled in two runs.

The Grizzlies recovered the lead by scoring six in the fifth.

Friday Harbor will miss the leadership of seniors Foley, Ausilio, Melissa Peacock, Becca Hope and Leah Evans, but the Wolverines have "some young girls who'll be good."
