Tennis postseason information

Friday Harbor girls tennis team plays in the Northwest A League Meet on Wednesday, May 8. The top two singles players and top two doubles players from that tournament advance to the Quad District Tournament, May 13 and 14 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the University of Washington campus. Last fall Friday Harbor qualified three boys (Zach Williams, singles, and Alex Altman/Drew Allen, doubles) for the Quad District Tournament. The top two boys and top three girls advance from the Quad District to the A/B State Tournament at Yakima Tennis Club, May 24 and 25, 2002.

Wolverine tennis team thumps Bears

Friday Harbor's girls tennis team defeated Sedro-Woolley 4-1 in a home contest Saturday, April 27.

Jill Wilson won 8-0 in No. 1 singles action and Libby Concord was victorious 8-3 in No. 3 singles play. Alina Vongsamart and Heather Jones won 8-1 in No. 1 doubles action and Hayley Bolstad and Brynn Woldvedt defeated their foes 8-0.

In No. 2 play, Callie Bolstad lost in an extra set 7-8, (6-8).

The Wolverines also took seven other matches. Amanda Pope won in singles play. The other winning doubles teams were: Shane Elben-Kathryn Troxel, Amanda Pope-Katie Buganski, Jen Wells-Libby Concord, Sadie Tappan-Amanda Pope, Hana DeLapp-Liza Jacobson and Katie Buganski-Brynn Woldvedt.

Lakewood trims Friday Harbor on courts

Friday Harbor won the top doubles action against Lakewood April 23 but lost three singles matches.

Heather Jones and Alina Vongasamart edged Katie Gillis and Charlee Haugen 8-7 (7-4) in No. singles play. Hayley Bolstad and Brynn Woldvedt defeated Jennifer Jones and Jodi O'Dell.

Friday Harbor tennis team falls to South Whidbey

South Whidbey swept Friday Harbor girls tennis team in top matches April 3.

Singles results are: Molly Fox defeated Jill Wilson 6-2, 6-0; Callie Bolstad d. Anna Gilles 6-3, 4-6, 7-5; Sonya Morphew d. Hayley Bolstad 6-2, 6-2. Paige Jolly and Jenny Newman beat Alina Vongsamart and Heather Jones 6-1, 6-3 in doubles action. Kelsey S. and Gena Felton defeated Shane Elben and Sadie Tappan 6-0, 6-0.

Wolverine doubles teams rally against Coupeville

Friday Harbor's top two doubles teams came back for victories against Coupeville April 2.

The Wolverines No. 1 doubles due of Alina Vongsamart and Heather Jones defeated Jennifer Boyer and Breanne Holroy 6-2, 4-6, 7-4. Friday Harbor's No. 2 squad of Anna Meyer and Hayley Bolstad beat Joi Vanna Cashen and Meghan Tucker 6-3, 3-6, 7-4.

Coupeville swept the singles play: Bethany Horr defeated Jill Wilson 6-3, 6-1; Jessica Boling downed Callie Bolstad 6-1, 6-1; and Mindy Horr upended Brynn Woldvedt 6-2, 6-2.

Jill Wilson and Callie Bolstad won in singles action. Friday Harbor's doubles winners were: Heather Jones-Alina Vongsamart; Anna Meyer-Hayley Bolstad; Mari Pemberton-Brynn Woldvedt; Jen Wells-Shane Elben; Katie Buganski-Amanda Pope; Libby Concord-Hana DeLapp; Sarah Werling-Sadie Tappan; and Brynn Woldvedt-Jen Wells.

Coupeville upends Friday Harbor

Coupeville's girls tennis team beat Friday Harbor 4-1 Thursday, March 29.

Hayley Boldstad and Brynn Woldvedt, Friday Harbor's No. 2 doubles team, defeated Joi Vanna Cashen and Meghan Tucker 8-3.

Borderites slip by Wolverine netters

Blaine's tennis team narrowly won several contests in a non-league match with Friday Harbor Monday, March 25.

The Borderites' Kate Lawrenson defeated Anna Meyer 8-7 (7-5) in No. 1 singles action and Brenda Jones won the same margin in No. 2 action. Friday Harbor's Katie Phelan thumped Sam Freeman 8-2 in the No. 3 match.

Doubles results are: Linsay Taylor-Jess Freeman (B) d. Alina Vongsamart-Heather Jones 8-4; Siri Thorsen-Hayley Bolstad (FH) d. Anna Sticklin-Krista Jones 8-6; Rochelle Jackson-Jen Krammer (B) d. Brynn Woldvedt-Sadie Tappan 8-7 (7-2); Cassie Revell-Andrea Klemnt (B) d. Jen Wells-Hana DeLapp 8-6; Libby Concord-Amanda Pope (FH) d. Megan Beardslee-Liz Marshall 8-1, 6-3.

Wolverines net win over Loggers

Friday Harbor's girls tennis team dumped Darrington 4-1 in their first meet of the season.

Friday Harbor No. singles player Jill Wilson rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Darrington's Laura Wilson 8-6. Callie Bolstad defeated Shani Meredith 8-2. The Loggers' Kelsie Padgett edged Anna Meyer 8-3.

The Wolverines top doubles teams swept the Loggers: Alina Vongsamart and Heather Jones defeated Eliza Schillhammer 8-3; Shane Elben and Mari Pemberton trimmed Jennifer Haldane and Shawna Kuper 8-3.
