Mudsharks, Capelli win tourney titles

The Mudsharks revived to gnash their way past the No Codes 16-5 to retain the Class A Division crown of the 2001 Island Rec Softball Tournament and Capelli smashed Island Towing 10-4 for the Class B Division title.

With a 14-8 stunner in the semi-finals of the double elimination tourney, the No Codes snared the first victory by any team over the Mudsharks this season. The No Codes, who competed in four consecutive games Sunday, kept beeping into the fifth inning of the championship before the Sharks slashed numerous hits for the 10-run-rule victory.

The Mudsharks, last year's champ, advanced by doubling up Orcas 14-7 in the opener and then edging the No Codes 14-12 in the second round. The No Codes beat Orcas 16-12 to enter the semi-final.

Capelli, winless in regular season play, crushed T&T 10-0 in the first round of Class B play and Island Towing drove over The Edge 4-2.
