Four Friday Harbor High School boys basketball team players were named on the 2011-12 NW 1A/2B Boys Basketball All League Teams. Wolverine junior Collin Williamson was named to the first team; junior Donald Galt to the second team. The Honorable Mention List includes Friday Harbor sophomores Otis Cooper-West and CJ Woods.

210-008Life Christian edged Friday Harbor 55-49 Saturday, Feb. 11 by stemming a Wolverine second-half rally. The Eagles improve to 14-7 and advance to the Tri-District Tournament’s second round. The Wolverines finish the season 16-6.

Friday Harbor led most of the first quarter as Collin Williamson scored nine of his team-high 16 points. "We miss him, he’s a good player," said Life Christian coach Mark Lovelady.

Williamson’s old team chipped away and took a 12-11 lead into the second period.

Friday Harbor High School boys basketball coach Rod Turnbull will be marking a first when his team hosts Nooksack Valley Wednesday, Feb. 8: The contest against the Pioneers is the first home playoff game in Turnbull's nine years of leading the Wolverines.

La Conner beat Friday Harbor 61-44 in Northwest 1A/2B League boys basketball Tuesday, Jan. 10. The host Wolverines drop to 5-2 in conference and the Braves improve to 7-0. Donald Galt paced the Wolverines with 12. The other Wolverine scorers were: Collin Williamson 10, C.J. Woods 10, Dylan Demaris 5, Dakota Rosales 4, Otis Cooper-West 2 and Ryan Allen

Friday Harbor bounced Nooksack Valley from postseason play with a 64-51 District 1 Tournament victory Wednesday, Feb. 8. The Wolverines advance to the Class 1A Tri-District Tourney Saturday, Feb. 11.

 

“That was nice,” Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull said of his first home playoff win as a Wolverine coach.

“I’m really excited...It’s nice to see your hard work pay off,” said Dakota Rosales, the Wolverines’ only senior. “I’m very happy.”

210-dsc_0670Friday Harbor boys basketball team trailed Meridian by five points at the start of the fourth quarter Saturday, Jan. 7, but the Wolverines outscored the visiting Trojans 18-9 for a 45-36 non-league victory.

"It was a good win for us," said Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull. "Our guys stepped up and really played big."
