4th Annual "Tours to the Top" on Dec. 9Matt Pranger photos
posted 11/16/2007
In 2004, then park docent, Jeanne Hyde, asked if there could be a "Tours to the Top" during December, thinking that it might be a great time for local residents to take advantage of the quiet season to climb to the top of the lighthouse. That first year more than 125 folks took the trip to the top! That may not seem like many, however, since only six people are permitted to the top at a time, there were many trips up and down the tower steps! | |

Since that first year, ninety percent of the visitors each year have been local, some vowing that this will be their annual winter treat. Visitors and residents are welcome to take the short walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse or the longer scenic walk along the shoreline to the lighthouse for fun, food and a trip to the top. Each year, the whales are “invited;” so far, though, their schedules have been full chasing salmon in other areas of the ocean. Festive lights and a home-made welcome sign will invite visitors to step inside. The aroma of yummy hot cider and home baked goodies supplied by local resident Julie Corey who this year entice visitors as they enter the door. |

Park Ranger Billy Hoppe and docent Jeanne Hyde will provide fun, informative Tours to the Top, answering questions about whales, lighthouse history, flora and fauna, and more. Please come join the fun - it’s free.
