Shaw Island ferry terminal reconstruction plannedposted 10/29/01Shaw Island ferry terminal slip will be replaced in 2003. An open house to discuss reconstruction of the docking facilities is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 in the Shaw Island Community Center. The slip replacement, scheduled to begin summer 2003, is a preservation project that will ensure the continued operation of the Shaw Island Terminal. The project will include closing the ferry dock for an extended period of time to replace the worn-out slip. . A brief presentation about the project will be made at 11:30 a.m. WSF staff will be on hand from 11 a.m. and after the presentation to answer questions about the project and discuss the options for transporting people and goods during the closure. At the open house, islanders will be invited to complete a customer survey asking what transportation alternatives they would be likely to use during the terminal closures. The results of the survey will help WSF provide alternative travel arrangements to island residents. The open house is also an opportunity for island residents to shape the way that vital project information is communicated to them. Input gathered will help WSF create customer communications that are tailored with "Shaw style." For more information about the open house contact
