PRESS RELEASE:
Friday Harbor Firefighters Association held their annual awards banquet last weekend at the Peppermill Restaurant. Attending, among others, were the Friday Harbor Mayor, members of the Town and County councils, past fire chiefs, Thrift store employees, firefighters from both the town and district fire departments and many friends and guests.
The crowd was informed and entertained by slide shows and a presentation about the Town fireboat Confidenceand its value to the community. Most recently the fireboat helped the Port of Friday Harbor rescue Friday Harbor Seafood from sinking.

Town firefighters honored

The Town of Friday Harbor Fire Department held its annual banquet Friday evening at the San Juan Island Grange Hall recognizing the service and commitment of the Town of Friday Harbor Firefighters. Mayor David Jones, Ex-Mayor Gary Boothman, Town Council members, community members touched by fire fighting efforts, firefighters and their guests joined together to honor this outstanding group of men and women.
Chief Robert Low recognized outstanding firefighters for 2005. The following firefighters were honored:
- Officer of the Year - Becky Rusnak
- Firefighter of the Year - Tony Smith
- Rookie of the Year - Andy Urbach
- Mayor's Award - Frank Chaffee and Lyle Tarte
- Community Service Award - Ron Garner, Barbara Law, Andy Urbach
- Outstanding Service Award - Luke Ferguson
- Whispering Pete Award - Peter Risser
- Risser Roll - Perpetual Only - Barbara Low and Zaim Melic

The annual banquet to recognize the service and commitment of Friday Harbor Fire Dept. firefighters was held Jan. 14, 2005 at the Mullis Community Center. Mayor Gary Boothman, members of the Town Council, community members, firefighters and their guests honored this outstanding group of men and women.

Marilyn Akin was given the Appreciation of Service Award recognizing her many years of dedicated service to the Town of Friday Harbor Thrift House.
