Photos: Live burn training in Friday Harbor for Lopez, Orcas, San Juan Fire Depts

The controlled safety burn of a house on Guard Street in Friday Harbor on March 26, 2022, hosted by San Juan Island Fire and Rescue, provided an opportunity for firefighters to obtain advanced training in the county.

The residence was located on the south side of Guard Street between Tucker and Marguerite. John Stimpson photos

This is a street view from Google maps, obviously taken a few years ago.

The fire in the residential structure was used for trained firefighters from Lopez, Orcas and San Juan Island to accomplish state-mandated live fire training. This saved all three agencies significant money by allowing crews to accomplish state mandated training and skills without travel to the state fire training facility in North Bend, WA.

All hazardous materials were removed and on-site safety inspections occurred before the training session.

The residence can be seen in the upper left of this image from Google maps.
