January 20: Rep. Larsen meeting with Port, County, Makers Guild, Land Bank
FRIDAY HARBOR, WA – On Friday, January 20, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) will meet with Friday Harbor Mayor Raymont Jackson and Town Administrator Denice Kulseth to discuss the impacts of last year’s fire in historic downtown Friday Harbor. Larsen, Jackson and Kulseth will also discuss how federal initiatives could help the Town invest in priorities like infrastructure improvements and skilled trades training.
Larsen will then meet with San Juan County leaders to discuss $5.28 million in earmark funding Larsen secured for the County’s Town to Zylstra Lake Multi-Modal Trail project in the FY23 omnibus spending package. San Juan County and the San Juan County Land Bank identified the trail as a priority corridor in the County’s six-year Parks, Trails, Natural Areas, and Non-motorized Transportation Plan.
Larsen will also meet with Port of Friday Harbor Executive Director Todd Nicholson and Port Commissioners to discuss $650,000 Larsen secured for the Port’s commercial barge landing and access road project in the FY23 omnibus package. The Port’s commercial barge landing is the only supply route to San Juan Island for all transportation and heading fuels, hazardous materials and oxygen for the Peace Island Medical Center.
Finally, Larsen will meet with Marcy Montgomery and Stephen Shrader for an introduction to the San Juan Islands Makers Guild and to discuss how federal funding could help the Makers Guild invest in their San Juan Islands Innovation Center business incubator and research lab. Larsen is a strong supporter of investing in long-term economic growth to create jobs and foster entrepreneurship and opportunity in the Pacific Northwest.
