Ramp at Shipyard Cove on San Juan Island to be replaced
Port of Friday Harbor Director Todd Nicholson emphasized the necessity of replacing the concrete ramp at Shipyard Cove on San Juan Island as he spoke with U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-1) Friday, January 20. "This is the lifeblood of the island," he said. Oxygen for Peace Island Medical Center, propane, gasoline are just some of the items that are hazardous and cannot be transported by ferry.
Old concrete ramp is in need of replacement.
Trucks onboard the barge drive off the ramp and drive through Shipyard Cove up the steep access road to Pear Point Road. The project funding includes repair of the access road. The steep access road will be repaired and paved.
Rep. Larsen met with Nicholson, Port Commissioners Barbara Marrett, and Victoria Compton to discuss the replacement project. Larsen had secured $650,000 for the Port’s commercial barge landing and access road project in the FY23 omnibus package.
