Carmen Dixon's house destroyed in fire Tuesday night

dsc06272-210A fire called in at 9:43 p.m. Wednesday, September 14 burned the entire second floor of Carmen Dixon's home on Blake Way in the Hillview Terrace neighborhood on San Juan Island.  No one was hurt and the family dog escaped unharmed. The second floor was fully involved when firefighters arrived. They were able to save some valuables from the first floor.

Dixon said her daughter lived on the second floor and had just left. She discovered the fire when she saw smoke.

Firefighters responded to a chimney fire at the home a few months ago, she said. They left smoke detectors for the family at that time.

The cause of the fire is unknown as of Thursday afternoon. San Juan Island Fire Chief Steve Marler, who is also the county Fire Marshal, called in Lopez Fire Chief Jim Ghiglione to be an extra set of eyes. Marler is doing this as a routine procedure. {gallery}/stories/news/2011/September/20110915/{/gallery}
