Driver crashes into Island Market twice
A 47-year old South Lake Tahoe, CA woman, driving a 2009 BMW SUV, struck Island Market twice about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014.
She told deputies that the vehicle suddenly accelerated as she attempted to park in front of the store. After initial impact, the driver shifted into reverse and the car lurched back towards a parked car. She shifted back into drive and the vehicle hit the building a second time with sufficient force to deploy the airbags.
The car did not penetrate the exterior wall of the building, but did considerable damage to both the building and the vehicle. The operator suffered minor injuries, and was treated and released by EMS at the scene.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.No citations were issued.
