Friday Harbor WinterFest kicked off with Island Lights Festival in Friday Harbor

The Island Lights Festival in Friday Harbor, sponsored by the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce,  took place Friday,  December 2, 2022. This kickoff of the Friday Harbor Winterfest was sponsored by San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce, Island Rec and of course Santa Claus.

A young choir sang for the crowd, followed by Kira Sable leading everyone in singing Christmas carols.

The tree lighting was more of a virtual tree lighting. People needed to use their imaginations a bit.  This is due to the sad demise of one of the two 100-year-old elms in Memorial Park. The Town created outlined a generic tree with twinkling lights. The colors coincided with the Noel sign, which is managed by the San Juan Island Lions Club.

Santa Claus turned on the tree lights and then was surrounded by excited children anxious to share their wishes.

For those who are new to the island, here are two photos showing how the trees looked in the recent past.
