San Juan Island School District Superintendent Danna Diaz, Friday Harbor High School Principal Fred Woods, and School Board Chair June Arnold handed out diplomas and congratulated the sixty-four members of FHHS Class of 2016 as they crossed the stage Saturday evening.
Crowds lined Spring Street near Memorial Park for the annual Memorial Day parade in Friday Harbor on May 30, 2016. Veterans, American Legion Post 163 Color Guard, the Legion Auxiliary and Boy Scouts marched down Spring Street to the ceremony at Memorial Park. The gathering included speeches, a 21-gun salute and the tossing of flowers into the water to remember those who died at sea.
Friday Harbor's Opening Day parade featured 40 boats led by the Orca Star with the American Legion Post 163 Color Guard aboard. They were saluted by three volleys from the American Legion Rifle Salute Squad. The classic wooden boat Baten followed with Grand Marshall, San Juan County Sheriff Ron Krebs.

San Juan Island Firefighters Association hosted its annual Easter Egg Hunt Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Jacksons Beach on San Juan Island. The rain let up for at least part of the time. Everyone ages infant to 12 received prizes courtesy of Friday Harbor Drugs, Ositos, The Toy Store and San Juan Island firefighters. Hot cocoa was provided by Friday Harbor House. Those who found a special egg received a fire safety prize for your family.
