Wolverines beat Grace Academy

Friday Harbor High School golf team played Grace Academy Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Cedarcrest Golf Club. Coach Jack Rice sent in this report.

Medalist for the second match in a row went to Jesse Kowolitz from Friday Harbor with a 43. Three players tied for runner up: Grace’s Trenton McKinney 46, FHHS Cole Thomas and Dylan Posenjak 46.

Some notable events: Dylan improved his score by 14 strokes in two days; opening day jitters are behind him. Jesse contributed his low round to a couple of lucky bounces. Two times during the round he hit trees that stopped his ball from going out of bounds. He knows how lucky that is and will be working on his driving accuracy!

Joe hit two of the longest drives I have seen in a long time. Twice I saw him hit within ten yards of the green on 300 yards par fours. If a player makes a birdie during the match, they get a free dinner from the coach on the way home. Jordan said he missed a green head mallard by inches and wanted to know if that qualified. That’s a duck not a bird.

Adam made his first road trip with the team and as expected was a little nervous. He won his spot on the travel team in a three way playoff. I’m sure he will feel better next time.

And the quote of the day came from Keegan. One of the other players asked him if he played soccer, Keegan looked at him and said, “We are a bunch of nerds, we don’t play soccer”.

I love these kids, they are the best. - Coach Jack Rice
