Orcas Island advances to state soccer semifinal; Friday Harbor eliminated

Orcas Island’s boys soccer team rallied for a 2-1 victory over Evergreen Lutheran at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma Friday, Nov. 10. The Vikings now advance to their third consecutive Class 1B/2B State Soccer semifinal.

Riverside Christian of Yakima eliminated defending champion Friday Harbor 3-2 at Anacortes High School.

Down 1-0 at the half, the Vikings (11-5-0) scored the equalizer and the go-ahead goal in the second period against the Eagles (9-6-0). Orcas, the 2021 champion and last year’s runner-up, will next face Providence Classical (12-4-0) at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at Federal Way Stadium. The Highlanders upset top-seeded Auburn Adventist (12-6-0).

In the other semifinal, Riverside Christian (9-5-0) will play the winner of a Nov. 11 semifinal between Mount Vernon Christian (12-4-1) and Upper Columbia Academy (10-2-0).

Friday Harbor, the Northwest 1B/2B League champion, finishes the season 11-3-0.
